Texas Tech women’s basketball head coach Krista Gerlich has announced the signing of Gemma Núñez to the 2025-26 roster.

Texas Tech women’s basketball head coach Krista Gerlich has announced the signing of Gemma Núñez to the 2025-26 roster.

“Gemma is one of the best returning floor generals in the country with an elite assist rate and high offensive efficiency,” Gerlich said. “Her ability to make the correct read and distribute the ball in traffic will elevate her teammates’ ability to score. She has an extremely high motor and high basketball IQ. We are thrilled she is a Lady Raider and look for her to have an immediate impact on our team.”

Núñez is a 5-7 point guard from Almeria, Spain coming to the Lady Raiders after playing three seasons at Campbell University. Over her career, Núñez has shot 35.8 percent from the field (186-for-519) and is a 73.5 percent free throw shooter (83-for-113). She also totals 367 rebounds, 361 assists and 131 steals in her tenure.

 

This past season with the Camels, Núñez started in all 35 games, aided the team to a WNIT second-round appearance and was named to the All-CAA Second Team and the All-CAA Defensive Team. On the season, Núñez recorded 11 double-figure scoring games, four double-digit assist games, three double-figure rebound games and two double-doubles – one with points and rebounds, and another with points and assists.

 

She posted career highs during her junior season with 12 assists, 11 rebounds, 16 points, seven field goals, six steals and two blocks as the Camels finished third in the CAA regular season. Núñez finished the season ranked eighth nationally with 6.2 assists per game, fourth nationally with 217 assists and 58th nationally with 73 steals.

 

While at Campbell, Núñez helped the team to the finals, semifinals and quarterfinals of the conference tournaments. She also aided the Camels to 55 wins over three seasons, including a 22-13 record last year with a 12-6 CAA record. In addition, the Camels tallied 31 conference wins while she was there.

 

Prior to her career at Campbell, Núñez attended high school at I.E.S. Bahia de Almeria and trained with the U18 Spain national team as well as earned a silver medal at the European U18 championship in 2022. Núñez plans to major in exercise science and will be a senior with the Lady Raiders next season.
