Top-Ranked Recruit Announces Commitment Following Departure from Duke’s Jon Scheyer

Five-Star Recruit Finalizes Decision After Leaving Duke’s Jon Scheyer

The Duke Blue Devils are set to bring in one of the nation’s top recruiting classes next season, despite the departure of Cooper Flagg.

After a stellar 35-4 season, Flagg declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, joining teammates Tyrese Proctor and Kon Knueppel.

Head coach Jon Scheyer now faces the task of navigating both high school recruiting and the transfer portal.

One of the top recruits in the 2025 class, five-star Shelton Henderson, decommitted from Duke following a strong season for Scheyer and his squad.

After decommitting from the Blue Devils, Henderson made a commitment to the Miami Hurricanes.

As reported by Joe Tipton, “The 6-6 small forward was originally recruited to Duke by former assistant Jai Lucas, who is now Miami’s head coach.”

Henderson had initially committed to Duke on November 2, 2024, then signed with the ACC program on November 13, before decommitting on April 17, 2025.

The Texas native is ranked as the No. 4 small forward and the No. 21 overall player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Henderson also attracted heavy interest from top programs across the country, including Texas, Louisville, Houston, and Texas Tech.

Duke’s Jon Scheyer will still welcome three high-profile recruits for next season: five-star Cameron Boozer, five-star Nikolas Khamenia, and four-star Cayden Boozer.

Cameron Boozer, who was recently named Florida’s Gatorade Player of the Year, is ranked as the No. 1 power forward and No. 4 overall player in the nation. His brother, Cayden Boozer, is ranked as the No. 4 point guard and No. 24 overall player.

Khamenia is ranked as the No. 5 power forward and No. 15 overall player in the country.
