Ex Detroit’s lion wife Kelly Stafford Advised to Get Medical Help After New Health Concern
Kelly Stafford recently got unexpected health news and shared her plan to make a change.
The 35-year-old completed an at-home blood test that showed her cholesterol was “extremely high,” she said on the Thursday, April 17, episode of her podcast “The Morning After.” The results showed Stafford “needs to seek medical attention.”
Stafford, wife of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, said genetics may play a role, but so do “sugar in your diet and processed foods.”
Though her family has high cholesterol history, Kelly admitted her eating habits don’t help.
“If you know me, I go to bed with 10 Swedish Fish, hot chocolate, or something,” she said.
“Compared to my mom, dad, or whoever has high cholesterol, I take in more sugar,” Kelly explained. “Everything I eat has sugar. And if not, like chicken and rice for lunch, I’ll add Yum Yum sauce — full of sugar.”
Rather than feel sorry or panic, Kelly saw the results as motivation.
“I needed that,” she said. “It was a needed kick in the ass.”
She added, “I feel fit from the outside, maybe in the best shape ever. Inside, though, the numbers tell a different story.”
Still, Kelly said she plans one final sugar fix before making her big change.
“I told Matthew, ‘After Spring Break,’” she said. “I can’t do it now, because honestly, sugar makes me happy on Spring Break — which is the issue.”
Kelly and Matthew have four daughters: twins Sawyer and Chandler, 8, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4.
“I’ll try a month cutting night sugar and test again,” Kelly said. “If it changes, great. If not, it’s likely genetic and I’ll need a new strategy.”
