After a successful year that saw them claim back-to-back division crowns for the first time in franchise history, the Detroit Lions appear ready to either upgrade or part ways with certain key players.
Among the names rumored to be on the trade block is wide receiver Jameson Williams, who’s faced a challenging journey in Detroit. So when Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported Williams might be traded, the former Alabama standout posted a couple of cryptic messages on social media.
Williams recently shared two Instagram story posts—each featuring a black screen with only text.
“Loyalty b4 any n everything,” read the first message. The second simply said, “Stay sucka free.” In addition, it seems Williams no longer follows the Lions on Instagram. It’s uncertain if he ever did in the first place.
Williams’ stint in Detroit has included its fair share of drama. After missing most of his rookie campaign due to a torn ACL, he also missed the start of his second year after being involved in a betting controversy.
He was suspended for six games for betting on a college football game from his hotel room during a team trip—violating league policy. However, the NFL later reduced the suspension to four games.
Last season, Williams also drew criticism for a sexually suggestive touchdown celebration, thrusting his hips toward the ground after scoring in a playoff game versus the Washington Commanders.
Not only did Detroit end up losing that game, but the NFL also fined Williams over $25,000 for the gesture.
Earlier in the 2024 campaign, Williams received a two-game suspension for breaking the league’s performance-enhancing substances rules.
Williams is now entering the final year of his rookie deal, and the Lions seem interested in keeping him long-term.
Detroit GM Brad Holmes said Williams was “a tremendous player for us last year” and believes the wideout still “has more in him.”
