Bachmeier brothers leaving Stanford, committing to BYU
Stanford football’s offseason roster shakeup continues. Last Saturday, quarterback Bear Bachmeier and wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier announced their commitment to BYU. The brothers’ exit follows the March dismissal of head coach Troy Taylor, which triggered a 30-day transfer window for Cardinal players.
Bear Bachmeier, a four-star recruit from Murrieta Valley High School, arrived at Stanford in January 2025, enrolling nearly eight months early. Despite the early hype, he didn’t see game action during his short stay on The Farm. His decision to transfer comes as the quarterback room remains crowded and the program transitions under first-year general manager Andrew Luck and interim head coach Frank Reich.
Tiger Bachmeier, heading into his junior year, totaled 46 catches for 476 yards and two touchdowns over two seasons with the Cardinal. After a breakout freshman campaign in 2023, his role shrank in 2024 with the rise of other receivers. Tiger also made an impact on special teams, including a 90-yard punt return touchdown against Cal Poly.
The brothers’ commitment to BYU reunites them on the field and adds depth to the Cougars’ roster. Bear is expected to compete for the backup quarterback spot behind senior Jake Retzlaff, while Tiger looks to strengthen the receiver group and special teams.
Stanford football faces a major rebuild after losing over 20 players to the transfer portal this offseason. The Bachmeier brothers’ departures highlight the challenges ahead as the Cardinal prepare for a retooled 2025 season.
