Kentucky officially announced the signing of 7-foot-1 center and former high school star Reece Potter

The Kentucky Wildcats officially announced the addition of 7-foot-1 center Reece Potter to the 2025-26 basketball roster on Thursday morning. A former standout at Lexington Catholic High School, Potter is transferring to Kentucky with high expectations and plenty of hometown support.

Head coach Mark Pope wasted no time expressing his excitement about Potter’s arrival. “Reece is a skilled, hard-working big man who understands what it means to wear the Kentucky jersey,” Pope said. “He’s grown tremendously as a player and a person, and we’re thrilled to bring him home.”

Potter began his college career at Dayton, where he redshirted his first year before seeing limited action. Despite a modest start, he showed flashes of promise with his ability to stretch the floor, rebound, and protect the rim. His combination of size and shooting touch makes him an intriguing piece for Pope’s evolving system at Kentucky.

The transfer marks a homecoming for Potter, who starred at Lexington Catholic and was widely regarded as one of the top high school prospects in Kentucky. Known for his soft shooting stroke, high basketball IQ, and steady development, Potter now has a chance to fulfill his dream of playing in Rupp Arena in front of friends and family.

Pope’s commitment to building a roster filled with versatile, motivated players makes Potter’s addition a natural fit. As Kentucky transitions under new leadership, adding a local product with deep ties to the Bluegrass State helps solidify Pope’s connection with the fanbase.

“Reece has the heart, skill, and drive to be a key contributor,” Pope said. “We can’t wait to get to work.”

With Potter officially in the fold, Kentucky fans will be watching closely as he takes the next step in his basketball journey — right at home.
