Everyone, former Michigan State standout Raequan Williams is back in the NFL, heading to Detroit after an impressive showing during his tryout with the Lions last week.
Per the official Twitter account of the Lions, they signed three players on Monday afternoon, one of whom was Williams—a great development following the earlier news of his workout.
Williams went undrafted in 2020 after four strong years under Mark Dantonio from 2016-2019. He made an impact early at Michigan State, playing 11 games in 2016, tallying 28 tackles, five for loss, and two sacks. In year two, his stats improved and continued to rise as a junior.
In 2019, his senior season, he posted 48 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and five sacks. Though considered a possible Day 3 selection, he went undrafted and later signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
He only saw limited action with the Eagles a few seasons back, but now he’s pushing for another NFL shot—and he’s landed an opportunity with Detroit. While this doesn’t lock in a roster spot, it’s a strong first move toward proving himself and reestablishing his career.
I predict he’ll likely start on the practice squad and work his way up, especially since Detroit has lacked depth along the defensive front.
