Frank Ragnow revealed his retirement this week, and Detroit Lions fans responded with a heartfelt tribute to the former center’s impact on the team.
Katie Kozak, affiliated with Ragnow’s Rags Remembered Foundation, shared via email that over a hundred supporters have donated $77 each to the organization, in recognition of the No. 77 jersey Ragnow wore during his seven years with Detroit.
Drafted in the first round from Arkansas in 2018, Ragnow earned four Pro Bowl selections in the last five years and earned the admiration of fans, coaches, and teammates by pushing through numerous injuries. Since 2021, he’s dealt with ongoing toe issues and played 17 of 18 games last season — including the playoffs — despite tearing a pectoral muscle early on.
On Instagram this week, Ragnow said his retirement was to prioritize his long-term well-being and be there for his family.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell was visibly moved while speaking about Ragnow ahead of the team’s final OTA session.
“I’ve got a ton of respect for that decision,” Campbell said. “That’s not something easy. It’s a tough choice, but he knows what’s best for himself. I will always respect that.”
On Thursday, June 5, Ragnow held his annual Skeet Shoot Showdown, where he told attendees stepping away was “a very, very hard decision to make.”
The event brought in over $175,000, which helps fund outdoor programs for children who’ve experienced the loss of a loved one.
Kozak noted that roughly $11,000 in additional contributions have come in separately. In addition to the $77 gifts, some fans have chosen to give $7.70.
