Once again, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is being recognized as one of the NFL’s top-10 quarterbacks by league insiders.
For the second year in a row, Goff has earned a top-10 ranking among quarterbacks according to NFL coaches, executives, and scouts.
ESPN, continuing its top-10 positional rankings series based on league polling, released the quarterback list for 2025, with Goff landing eighth overall. That’s one spot higher than his rank a year ago.
“He’s evolved into one of the league’s cleanest throwers,” said an anonymous NFC defensive coach to ESPN. “He’s cut down on mistakes. He’s dependable, has a strong arm, and he’s not just a pocket guy anymore. He’s added layers to his game.”
Goff is coming off his most productive season yet. He posted career-bests in touchdowns (37), yards per attempt (8.6), passer rating (111.8), QBR (68.4), and completion rate (72.4). He did throw 12 interceptions, though five came in one outing vs. the Houston Texans.
One AFC scout credited Detroit’s coaches for Goff’s poise, saying they’ve helped him stay calm and sharp under pressure.
“He’s gotten better at adjusting in the pocket and throwing with precision, which has elevated his game,” the scout noted. “Detroit’s coaches have helped him feel at ease, and he’s flourished.”
Among NFC quarterbacks, Goff ranked third behind Jayden Daniels (fifth) and Matthew Stafford (sixth). Surprisingly, Goff came in above Jalen Hurts, the Super Bowl winner, who placed ninth.
No other NFC North signal-callers cracked the top-10, though Jordan Love earned an honorable mention and appears just outside the list.
