Lions QB Jared Goff Receives Life-Altering News Before 2025 Season

As the 2025 NFL season approaches, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is finally earning overdue recognition from analysts and insiders across the league.

There’s also a major shift coming at home for Goff — one involving diapers, bottles, and sleepless nights.

With a critical campaign ahead, the 30-year-old quarterback and his wife, Christen, welcomed their first child, a daughter named Romy Isabelle, on July 15, via a joint Instagram post.

“Heart is bursting into a million pieces,” Christen shared on her Instagram story, reposting the announcement.

The couple previously revealed the pregnancy back in February, just months after tying the knot in June 2024, according to a report from People.com.

“I’m looking forward to becoming a dad,” Goff shared during the NFL Honors, per People. “I can’t wait to see [Harper] step into motherhood.”

“He’s going to be an incredible [dad], and I’m so excited to experience it all with him,” Harper said of their journey ahead.

The Instagram slideshow showed Jared holding his newborn daughter, along with several maternity shots highlighting Christen’s pregnancy journey.

The love story started in 2019, after the couple met unexpectedly on a dating app while both living in Los Angeles.

“I wasn’t looking for anything serious,” Christen told Sports Illustrated in a 2022 feature. “I’d just left a long-term relationship. Then I met Jared — and everything changed.”

Their romance survived a rollercoaster period, including Goff’s 2021 trade to the Lions following a Super Bowl run with the Rams just two years earlier.

That first season in Detroit, Goff helped snap a brutal 15-game losing streak. Christen, on a Sports Illustrated shoot, was shown reacting live to the thrilling game-winning drive.

The victory helped lay the groundwork for more than just football success — it was a turning point for the team and for the couple.

They got engaged in 2022, married in 2024, and later announced their pregnancy in early 2025.

Now, Goff enters a high-stakes season where Detroit hopes to take the final step to reach the Super Bowl after near-misses in back-to-back years. His rising cap numbers will make building the roster tougher soon.

Still, Goff’s NFL peers think he’s more than capable of rising to the moment.

In an ESPN poll of NFL execs, coaches, and scouts, Goff was ranked as the league’s No. 8 quarterback heading into 2025.

“Three years ago, even two, top-10 was a stretch for Goff. Now, his name is nearly always there. He showed up in 82% of submissions,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote July 14.

“He’s one of the best pure passers now,” said a veteran NFC defensive coach. “Turnovers used to be a problem. Now he’s consistent, has a strong arm, and makes more plays overall.”

Last season, Goff finished second in the league with 4,629 passing yards. He led all quarterbacks in play-action yardage (1,972) and tallied 15 touchdowns off it, per ESPN.

“He’s improved at resetting his feet and throwing with precision, and that’s transformed his game,” an AFC scout told Fowler. “Detroit’s staff gave him confidence in the pocket — and he’s thrived under it.”

But with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson now gone, Goff will need to show he can sustain this growth without one of the top minds guiding him.
