Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is receiving warm congratulations from the team and many of his close friends.
As the new NFL season approaches, the Lions are focused on preparation, but life isn’t only about football. Everyone on the team, including coaches and players, has personal lives with loved ones that mean the most. Football matters, but having family and support around is the foundation.
Recently, Goff shared joyful news: he and his wife, Christen Harper-Goff, have welcomed their first child, a daughter named Romy Isabelle Goff.
After the couple revealed the news on Tuesday, July 15, congratulations quickly rolled in. Many of Christen’s model friends sent well wishes, along with the Detroit Lions’ organization.
The Goffs made the announcement through an Instagram post that featured baby photos and simply said, “Romy Isabelle Goff” with a pink heart emoji.
The Lions’ official account promptly responded, writing “Congratulations!!” followed by three pink heart emojis to celebrate the occasion.
Fellow Sports Illustrated model Katie Austin commented excitedly, “She’s here!!! I love her so much.” Comedian and podcast host Shannon Ford Middleton added, “She is so so so so perfect. I’m thrilled for you guys,” using lots of hearts. Model Mara Teigen chimed in with, “Congratulations mama! Welcome to the best part of life.”
The Lions also shared the baby news on X, posting a photo of Goff, his wife, and their new baby to mark the happy moment.
“Dad energy this year will be epic Goff,” said one fan. Another added, “Even as a Packers fan it’s hard not to like and root for Jared Goff to be successful. Just seems like a good person. Congrats Goff.” A third comment read, “Well congrats to you both on your new bundle of joy.”
Here at Heavy Sports, we extend our sincere congratulations to the Goff family as well.
Meanwhile, on the football front, Goff is earning more respect. In CBS Sports’ 2025 quarterback preview, analyst Cody Benjamin wrote, “Creating something out of nothing isn’t his strong suit, and his turnover spree to close 2024 evoked memories of his skittish finish with the Rams, but Goff has also proven to be an increasingly efficient point guard for the Detroit Lions’ all-star weaponry. A clean pocket means he’s capable of shepherding a shootout with anyone.”
“No position gets more credit for a team’s success, and no position gets more heat for a team’s failure,” Benjamin noted. “Many people overstate the quarterback’s importance relative to the rest of the team; some understate it. No matter what, people are always talking.”
Benjamin placed Goff in the second tier of NFL quarterbacks, labeling him one of the “borderline stars.” Former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford appeared on that tier as well.
