Detroit Lions finalize retirement of veteran center and release cornerback.
The Detroit Lions have made an official move regarding cornerback Divaad Wilson, who had been placed on injured reserve.
As first-year players arrived for training camp, the organization chose to waive the former defensive back for the Jaguars, Cardinals, and Giants via an injury settlement.
Following Frank Ragnow’s decision to retire a month earlier, Detroit made a couple of minor roster adjustments. Wilson was added, while undrafted rookie Gavin Holmes was released.
Wilson’s stint in Detroit was brief, ending in under 72 hours after being released with an injury tag.
The Lions now have one roster slot open after officially moving Ragnow to the NFL’s reserve/retired list.
After weighing his options post-2024 season, the longtime center decided to step away from the NFL.
Following years of dealing with an unrepairable foot injury, the former first-rounder prioritized long-term health over continuing his football career.
“I gave this team everything in me and thought I had more to give, but truthfully, I don’t. My body is telling me it’s time, and this was a truly tough decision,” Ragnow said online. “This organization has been amazing throughout, and I’m deeply thankful for the Lions and the fans. It’s been a true honor to fight on the field for you.”
