Dan Campbell unhappy with Lion’ showing in Hall of Fame Game defeat

The Lions gave extended playing time to many young players and reserves in the Hall of Fame Game, but head coach Dan Campbell was left dissatisfied with the outcome.

Detroit suffered a 34-7 defeat to the Chargers, and Campbell said the team’s effort didn’t live up to what’s expected in Detroit.

“You want to win, and you also want to perform at a high level — we didn’t do either,” Campbell stated. “I expect a much better effort from us next week.”

Turnovers were a major source of frustration for Campbell.

“We gave it away five times and didn’t force any turnovers,” Campbell noted. “If you’re wearing a Lions jersey, protecting the football is critical — or you won’t last here.”

Campbell emphasized that those battling for a roster spot must step up on August 8 against Atlanta.

“When your number’s called, you’ve got to execute,” he said. “We need major improvement. Coaches have to coach better, and players must perform better.”
