Newcastle United are only a few days away from facing Aston Villa in their Premier League opener and continue to be linked with possible signings.
The Magpies remain optimistic about striking an agreement with Villa for midfielder Jacob Ramsey and want to bring the England youth star into their squad before the trip to Villa Park.
The club are still chasing a breakthrough in their search for a new forward for the coming season, but could finally secure a long-standing target.
Departing goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos revealed he had no hesitation joining La Liga club Sevilla after making just 45 minutes of appearances since arriving at Newcastle.
“ For me, the truth is that as soon as the Sevilla opportunity appeared, I didn’t think twice,” Estadio Deportivo quoted him as saying.
“I’m hungry, motivated, and the coach will decide who plays. I’m delighted to be here. Joining has been simple. My teammates have been fantastic, welcoming me from the start.
“The trickiest thing will be learning all the names. Once I knew they wanted me, I had no doubts.
“LaLiga is perfect for developing as a player, and Sevilla have shown how great it is. Winning trophies — that’s what I want. Lifting silverware again is my aim.”
AfricaFoot reports Newcastle and Brentford are close to agreeing a deal for striker Yoane Wissa, with a move possible by week’s end. Although Nottingham Forest and Saudi club Neom are interested, the 28-year-old prefers St James’ Park.
Keith Andrew’s side are also talking with Arnaud Kalimuendo and plan to bid for Bournemouth winger Dango Ouattara. Journalist Ben Jacobs says the Cherries are in “advanced talks” to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Amine Adil, a move that could spark Ouattara’s switch to Brentford.
If Brentford complete that deal quickly, Newcastle could finally close a transfer of their own.
