Luke Edwards reveals what Alexander Isak’s agent ‘told’ the striker about Newcastle United and Liverpool
Isak is determined to quit Newcastle amid interest from Liverpool, who have already had a huge bid for the Sweden star rejected.
Isak remains a Newcastle United player, although that definition is being tested to the limit right now.
According to Craig Hope of The Daily Mail, Isak is effectively on strike at St James’ Park and is expected to be fined once he misses a competitive fixture.
Supporters are angry with Isak, who will have a long way to go to repair his reputation if he stays on Tyneside.
Wanting to move on is one thing. Isak is among the top strikers in world football and, at 25, it’s understandable to seek a club competing for the biggest trophies immediately.
However, refusing to play is another matter entirely. Isak has been accused of betraying Newcastle, and Luke Edwards has shed more light on the situation.
Edwards claimed Isak’s agent told him that misbehaving would be enough to force a move to Anfield, even though Liverpool have refused to meet Newcastle’s £150million asking price.
He added that the transfer “probably” won’t happen now, with the chances having been “rapidly” fading for weeks.
Eddie Howe has handled the saga well. It’s difficult to pinpoint anything Newcastle have done wrong, but they must tread carefully as he may have to reintegrate after the window closes.
The reality is that Liverpool have not tabled a convincing bid. If they ever do, Newcastle might have a decision to make. But as it stands, there’s been no offer close to his valuation. Should they simply allow him to leave at a discount?
Howe has avoided heavily criticising Isak publicly, though the episode has clearly disrupted his 2025/26 plans.
Speaking to BBC Sport, the Newcastle United boss said: “I don’t think it’s been good for us.
“I can’t deny it’s been a major challenge.
“Alex, for me, is among the best strikers in the world – if not the very best. Losing him from the squad creates a huge void.”
