Luis Diaz honored Diogo Jota by copying his celebration after scoring for Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.
The winger made his first official appearance for Bayern following a £65.5 million move from Liverpool earlier this summer.
After Harry Kane gave them the lead against VfB Stuttgart, Diaz scored in the second half with a header from Serge Gnabry’s cross.
He then performed the video game celebration famously done by Jota before he and his brother Andre Silva sadly passed away last month.
Diaz and Jota played 73 matches together for Liverpool and won the Premier League title at Anfield last season.
They also earned winners’ medals in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup competitions.
‘DJ 20’ was displayed in The Kop, while the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand showed ‘AS 30’.
Fans at Anfield sang an emotional version of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ before a moment of silence.
Liverpool supporters then chanted ‘Oh he wears the number 20’ during the 20th minute of the game.
At full-time, Mohamed Salah seemed to hold back tears during the touching event.
Jota arrived at Liverpool in 2020 from Wolves, where he scored 44 goals in 131 games.
The club also prepared tributes for him and Silva at Molineux before their Premier League match against Manchester City.
A large tifo of Jota was shown before kick-off with a banner saying ‘We’ll remember you when you walk in fields of gold’.
Wolves played his favorite song, Fields of Gold by Sting, over the speakers inside the stadium.
Like Liverpool, fans applauded him in the 18th minute in honor of the shirt number he wore for both teams.
Liverpool recently confirmed that the no. 20 shirt has been retired at all levels in tribute to Jota.
