Deal Off’ – Liverpool Pursuit of ‘Elite’ Attacker ‘Falls Through’

Liverpool are now set to miss out on signing Real Madrid forward Rodrygo in the current summer transfer window, according to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider.

Recruiting a left-sided winger looked like one of Liverpool’s main aims during the market, particularly after Luis Díaz departed Anfield to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. Cody Gakpo has been filling that role recently, while Florian Wirtz is also capable of operating wide if required.

The Merseyside club seem to be focusing on Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak instead, with GIVEMESPORT’s senior reporter Fabrizio Romano revealing fresh discussions took place on Saturday. Whether Liverpool can finalise a move for the Swedish frontman is uncertain, but it’s clear another attacking option will not be arriving.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool’s pursuit of Rodrygo has effectively ‘fallen apart,’ with O’Rourke noting the transfer always appeared highly difficult, and the Brazilian is content at Madrid, meaning it won’t materialise before the window closes.

Rodrygo, described as ‘elite’ by his ex-Real Madrid colleague Luka Modric, would have been a clever signing for Liverpool, offering an extra spark down the left flank. The move was always going to demand huge money, especially since he remains a key figure in Xabi Alonso’s senior squad in Spain.

Arne Slot still has plenty of firepower in attack, so missing out on Rodrygo isn’t a major setback. The Brazil international would have strengthened Liverpool’s roster, but with record-breaking funds already spent to land Florian Wirtz, the club prefer not to overspend this summer.
