Newcastle United squad breaks silence with statement on Alexander Isak

Newcastle United allowed Alexander Isak to join Liverpool for a British-record fee on transfer deadline day.

Alexander Isak departed Newcastle United amid controversy following a drawn-out summer transfer saga.

Liverpool finally secured the forward after paying £130 million, giving Arne Slot’s attack one of the world’s most talented strikers.

Isak officially left St James’ Park after refusing to play during the summer, a move that angered Newcastle supporters who feel the Swede has permanently damaged his legacy on Tyneside.

Liverpool supporters, in contrast, are delighted with their newest star and optimistic about retaining the Premier League crown after a perfect start to the 2025-26 campaign.

Per MailSport, one Newcastle player had to be restrained by a teammate during the saga, furious with how the Swedish striker handled himself.

The Magpies’ dressing room has been split over Isak’s exit, with some players supporting his desire to progress, while others disapproved of the manner in which he forced the move.

One teammate addressed the forward directly on social media after his Liverpool transfer was confirmed late Monday evening.

Dutch centre-back Sven Botman wrote: “What started as teammates grew into one of my few closest friendships. Nothing more needs saying, brother—best of luck in your next chapter.”

Anthony Gordon also posted a similar tribute: “Whatever’s happened, it’s been great to play alongside you. The chemistry on the pitch was special and you’re an even better person off it. I wish you nothing but success, brother.”

Not all of Eddie Howe’s players—or Newcastle’s hierarchy—share that outlook, as a short 37-word club statement was all that was issued to confirm his departure.

Club captain Bruno Guimaraes, meanwhile, has been active online, welcoming Brentford arrival Yoane Wissa, but has remained silent on Isak’s exit. Newcastle will return to Anfield on 31 January, 2026, after Liverpool’s stoppage-time 3-2 victory over them last week.
