Axel Disasi set for Chelsea exit in January with Crystal Palace, West Ham United interest

As per a report from  Axel Disasi looks destined to depart in January since he does not figure in Enzo Maresca’s long-term plans. He was close to securing a return to AS Monaco in the final days of the market, but the switch fell apart because of the club’s loan restrictions.

Disasi rose to prominence at Monaco before sealing a transfer to the London side in the summer of 2023. While initially tipped to play a key role, things failed to unfold as hoped. He eventually slipped down Maresca’s pecking order and spent the latter half of the previous campaign out on loan at Aston Villa.

He came back to Stamford Bridge this summer, but there was no space for him in Maresca’s plans. Consequently, Chelsea were open to letting him leave and expected a deal to be finalised before the deadline. Though several top clubs were linked with the Frenchman, none tabled a concrete proposal.

Ultimately, AS Monaco moved to bring back the 27-year-old on loan. They even reached a verbal understanding with Chelsea, yet the deal collapsed under FIFA’s loan rules. The Blues had already used their final slot after agreeing to loan Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich for the season.

Therefore, Disasi was denied a return to Ligue 1. While a summer switch failed to happen, his exit in January appears certain, as he has been excluded from Chelsea’s Premier League roster.

Given he remains eligible to join another English side on loan, Crystal Palace and West Ham United have surfaced as likely suitors. The Eagles are closely monitoring the situation, with Marc Guehi tipped to depart in January, viewing Disasi as an immediate replacement.

West Ham also retain interest in the France international. Still, the defender does not appear enthusiastic about joining them despite Graham Potter’s backing. Chelsea are set to demand full salary coverage plus a £5 million loan fee, which could complicate negotiations.
