Football season has returned, and Kelly Stafford is certainly impressed with the Los Angeles Rams’ quarterback lineup.
“QB 1 is Matthew Stafford. QB 2 is Jimmy Garoppolo – for the women tuning in, yes, he’s the handsome one,” Kelly, 36, revealed on the Tuesday, September 2, episode of “The Morning After” podcast. “And QB 3 is Stetson Bennett. For the Georgia crowd, that’s the Bulldogs’ quarterback. Those are our three.”
When the Rams open their season on Sunday, September 7, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, Matthew, 37, will be under center as the starter.
Kelly noted that her husband enjoys a strong connection with his fellow quarterbacks.
“A healthy quarterback room that sticks together, builds chemistry, and enjoys being around each other is the best,” she shared. “That’s what matters. You want your QB comfortable and happy, and when the group clicks, that’s possible.”
Before capturing a Super Bowl title with the Rams, Matthew starred at Georgia before being drafted first overall by the Detroit Lions in 2009.
Across his lengthy career, Kelly said Matthew has usually had “really positive quarterback rooms.”
“I’m not sure if that’s because of who he is and how easygoing he can be,” she admitted, “or if he’s just been very fortunate.”
Through her podcast, Kelly aims to give her audience a more family-oriented angle on NFL life. She and Matthew are parents to twins Sawyer and Chandler, 8, Hunter, 7, and Tyler, 5.
In the run-up to the season, Matthew spent long stretches working at the Rams’ training camp.
While Kelly admitted it’s a little easier now that their daughters are older, she sympathizes with other parents with younger kids who deal with Dad’s absence during football.
“For families with little ones, Dad’s home all off-season and then suddenly gone for five weeks,” she said. “Sometimes you truly don’t see him that long. We’re lucky that we catch Matthew sometimes, but not everyone can.”
Kelly also recently revealed that one of her daughters has been battling behavioral struggles.
On the August 28 episode of her show with Hank Winchester, Kelly confessed she has been “having a tough time” with one child.
“She’s turned into someone I don’t quite recognize. At the moment, I’m trying to stay calm about it,” Kelly said, explaining that the struggles have affected sports too, as her daughter has been “disrespecting coaches, refusing to listen, showing attitude, and walking away mid-talk.”
After hearing her story, Hank reassured her by saying, “It’s all going to work out. We’re in this together.
