Newcastle Eye £260,000-a-Week Champions League Midfield Ace

Newcastle United are said to be competing with several English clubs to land Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga.

According to CaughtOffside, the Magpies are weighing up a swoop for the French international, whose future in Spain isn’t entirely secure. An exit isn’t ruled out, and Eddie Howe has the 22-year-old firmly on his radar.

Bringing in Camavinga would represent a major coup for the Tyneside side and strengthen Howe’s midfield options due to his flexibility. While he shines as a defensive midfielder, he is also capable of covering as an emergency left-back.

Reports indicate that Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United are all keeping tabs on the Madrid talent, who still has close to four years remaining on his £260,000-a-week deal (per Capology). A bid of around €80m (£70m) could convince Los Blancos to listen.

A switch to St James’ Park would certainly raise eyebrows, considering Howe already boasts one of the league’s strongest midfield cores in Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

Even so, Newcastle could be tempted to recruit a proven winner like Camavinga who can boost their Champions League credentials. The Frenchman has lifted Europe’s biggest prize twice since arriving at Madrid in 2021.

Earlier this year, Howe looked set for a dilemma before the Alexander Isak saga unfolded, with Tonali tipped as the likeliest star departure. Rumors suggested the Italian wanted out, though the 25-year-old now seems to have changed his stance.
