The sudden death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk sparked widespread responses across the sports community.

Kirk was fatally shot while addressing students at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10. He was 31 years old.

He was shot only moments into his lecture at the university, the opening stop on his American Comeback Tour,” scheduled to visit colleges nationwide through October’s end.

He leaves behind his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their two children: a daughter born in August 2022 and a son welcomed in May 2024.

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus,” Kirk sent, quoting Philippians 3:14.

Butker, 30, replied, “On the mission Thank you.”

“Thank you for being a strong witness of Christ, Charlie,” Butker captioned. “Thank you for chasing truth and leading your home as husband and father. The ESPN host said Kirk’s legacy was “synonymous with having the bravery to speak convictions and welcome tough conversations with opponents.”

“I’m not deeply political but I love this nation, and today was startling, heartbreaking, and infuriating together,” McAfee, 38, wrote on X. “I realized I’m naive about how extreme it’s become, but watching a man gunned down in daylight for his views disgusted and shattered me.”

He continued, “This cannot be who we are or will become as a nation… I trust good people will outnumber evil ones, but today marked an alarming page in our history.”

“I constantly fight to protect sensitive details from reaching the internet for my child, my nieces, and nephews,” Madeline posted. “I beg everyone not to repost, comment, or share anything that will harm Charlie’s loved ones. Let’s stand in their defense.”

She also uploaded a graphic reading “Rest in peace Charlie” with the caption, “My heart breaks for this family.”

Matthew and his brother, Johnny, were killed by a suspected drunk driver while cycling in August 2024.

Madeline gave birth to their first child, son Tripp, in December 2024.

Danica Patrick

The retired race car driver, who has stepped into politics, wrote a lengthy tribute to Kirk.

“His efforts to bring conservative ideals to schools and universities helped make Republican values appealing to the youth,” Patrick, 43, said on Instagram. “He could transform rallies into vibrant celebrations! He turned his passion and vision into reality.”

She added, “It’s moments like these where we reflect on humanity and ask why, then the crucial question… what do we do? I don’t hold the answer. But it’s not fueling fire with fire, even if anger dominates. We need a solution that reshapes the world permanently.”

“The only word that comes is tragic,” Favre, 55, wrote on X. “Please remember Charlie Kirk and his family in your prayers…”
