Kelly Stafford, Wife of Ex-Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford, Reveals Personal Announcement
It feels like ages since Matthew Stafford led the Detroit Lions, and some fans might prefer not to relive those seasons. While Stafford’s individual play was outstanding, those weren’t the Lions’ most successful years. Ultimately, it wasn’t meant to be, and he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster deal that brought current Lions quarterback Jared Goff to Detroit. Once Stafford arrived in L.A., he helped the Rams capture a Super Bowl title — a bittersweet moment for Lions fans — but Detroit has since found its own reasons to celebrate.
Despite the Rams’ loss to the 49ers on Thursday Night Football, October 2, Stafford is still turning heads this season. At 37 years old, he’s performing as if he’s in his prime. While 37 isn’t exactly old, it’s considered seasoned for an NFL player. Stafford currently tops the league with 1,503 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes. He also leads in completions (122) and attempts (183), proving he’s still among the game’s elite.
But football isn’t his only focus. Off the field, Stafford is a devoted husband and father, and his wife, Kelly, has built a name for herself as a podcast host. Recently, however, she revealed some big personal news.
Kelly Stafford Shares Personal Announcement
Kelly, Matthew’s wife, has revealed she’s taking a temporary break from her podcast, The Morning After, to focus on her mental health. She also noted that she wants to reevaluate the show’s direction and future.
During Thursday’s episode — co-hosted by executive producer Kyra Stevens instead of Hank Winchester — Kelly explained that she plans to step away for about a month to prioritize her family and rethink the podcast’s goals.
“I wanted to let everyone know I’ll be taking a break for about a month,” Kelly said. “I’ve been struggling with where I see this thing going. Obviously, I have four daughters and a husband, and this podcast is another one of my babies — I love it dearly, but not as much as them.”
She continued, “It’s been taking more time than I want it to. So, Kyra and I are going to take this month to brainstorm and figure out where to go from here.”
Kelly went on to explain that her motivation for starting The Morning After was to create “a community that embraces imperfection and supports one another instead of judging.” She added, “I’ve leaned on you guys, and I hope you’ve leaned on this podcast — for laughter or just the reminder that life doesn’t have to be perfect.”
Kelly Kept Her Decision From Matthew Stafford
Kelly also admitted that she hadn’t told Matthew about her decision to step away. “For now, it’s about my mental health, and it’s also midseason — there have been a lot of changes with this podcast,” she said. “I just need to take a step back and figure out what’s next. I’m not saying it’s over, but I really need a breather.”
Faithful listeners will have to wait a little while before Kelly returns to the mic, as she takes the time she needs to rest and refocus.
