Taylor Swift’s Track About Travis Kelce Breaks Records Ahead of Chiefs Game

The Kansas City Chiefs aim to bounce back into the win column as they prepare to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football.

One person not fixated on the Chiefs’ tough 31-28 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, when Kansas City totaled 13 penalties for 109 yards, is tight end Travis Kelce.

“We’re moving on,” Kelce said during the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast. “We got the [expletive] Lions coming in. I don’t need to keep talking about the Jags loss. Everyone saw all the debauchery that (expletive) happened that game. We just have to be better.”

Kelce reached a major milestone during that Monday Night Football game. After catching 7-of-8 passes for 61 yards and a touchdown versus Jacksonville, he broke the NFL record for most receptions by a tight end (1,026) through his first 13 seasons.

Kelce’s fiancée, Taylor Swift, also made history this week.

Taylor Swift celebrates with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium on January 26, 2025.

Swift didn’t attend the Chiefs-Jaguars matchup at EverBank Stadium, as she was busy promoting her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”

In several interviews, Swift confirmed that Kelce inspired multiple tracks on the record, which broke the all-time mark for biggest album sales week. “The Life of a Showgirl” surpassed Adele’s previous record of 3.482 million units in just five days, according to Billboard.

Just a day before the Lions-Chiefs primetime game, Swift set yet another record.

Travis Kelce-Inspired Song, ‘Opalite,’ Becomes Fastest Non-Single to Reach 100 Million Streams

“The Life of a Showgirl” became Amazon’s most-streamed album of 2025 within 10 hours of release and also Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day this year. Swift openly credited her relationship with Kelce as the main inspiration behind the project.

Along with “Wood” and “The Fate of Ophelia,” the song “Opalite,” which Kelce named his favorite, is also about the 10-time Pro Bowler. On Saturday, October 11, “Opalite” became the fastest non-single in Spotify history to hit 100 million streams.

Speaking to Capital FM radio last week, Swift said, “Travis’ birthstone is an opal, and I’ve always been drawn to that stone. It felt like a beautiful symbol. [Opalite is] a man-made opal, and happiness can also be man-made, too. So that’s kind of the meaning — the contrast between the two.”

Fans hope Swift will return to Arrowhead Stadium for the Lions-Chiefs game Sunday, though she missed last week’s matchup due to her guest appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.”

During the taping, the 35-year-old explained why she’s not eager to headline the Super Bowl halftime show. “Jay-Z has always been wonderful to me,” Swift said. “Our teams communicate often.

“They’ll sometimes ask, ‘How does she feel about…?’ And it’s never a formal offer, but we can be honest and say I’m in love with someone who actually plays that sport on that same field.”

Though Kelce supports the idea, Swift isn’t ready for it. “Can you imagine if he’s out there every week putting his body on the line playing this high-pressure, dangerous game, and I’m like, ‘Hmm, what should my choreography be? Maybe two verses of ‘Shake It Off’ into ‘Blank Space’ into ‘Cruel Summer.’”
