Lions Coach Dan Campbell Shares Surprising Truth Behind Controversial Chiefs

On Sunday night, the Detroit Lions suffered their second loss of the 2025 NFL season in a blowout defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a disappointing effort all around for Detroit, ending with a postgame altercation sparked by defensive back Brian Branch that led to a one-game suspension for the former Alabama standout.

Though the loss was far too one-sided to be pinned on the referees, one questionable moment stood out when the Lions were flagged for an illegal motion. Official Craig Wrolstad explained afterward that the decision was made solely by the on-field crew, without any input from the league office in New York.

However, Lions head coach Dan Campbell shared a very different account during his appearance on 97.1 The Ticket on Wednesday, claiming that a referee on the field actually told him the illegal motion call did come from New York, according to a post on the NFL Subreddit.

Simply put, one of them isn’t telling the truth.

If Campbell’s statement were verified, it would raise serious concerns for the NFL, as Wrolstad would have been caught lying to the media following the game.
