Manchester United’s Leny Yoro hopes to end 10-year wait for Golden Boy award
Leny Yoro has a chance to become the fourth Manchester United star to claim the prestigious Golden Boy trophy after receiving a nomination.
United have focused on signing youthful talents such as Leny Yoro, Patrick Dorgu, and Diego Leon.
Ratcliffe has demonstrated patience with Ruben Amorim and is expected to show the same trust in younger players, provided they continue to develop consistently.
Ineos interrupted Real Madrid’s pursuit of Yoro last year. The France Under-23 defender has progressed gradually since then, even though he missed the beginning of the 2024/25 season due to injury.
Yoro has featured in seven matches for United this term, starting five times in the Premier League. He is anticipated to challenge Harry Maguire for a spot in the lineup to face Liverpool on Sunday.
The Golden Boy accolade is given annually to Europe’s best emerging footballer.
Yoro stands as the only United representative shortlisted for the 2025 Golden Boy award, having earned a place among the 25 nominated players.
It marks a decade since a United footballer last secured the honour.
Anthony Martial won the award in 2015 following his big-money transfer from AS Monaco.
The French forward, who is now struggling for consistency in Mexico, was recognised for his impressive breakthrough that year. This included a strong finish to Monaco’s campaign as they finished third in Ligue 1, his first senior appearance for France, and a promising beginning to life at United.
Martial triumphed over Kingsley Coman and Hector Bellerin to win the prize.
Unfortunately, Martial failed to meet the expectations at United and departed the club last year.
