The Detroit Lions are dealing with several injuries along their offensive line, but they won’t be getting any help from a familiar face.
Former center Frank Ragnow, who retired before the 2024 season after seven years with the team, has officially closed the door on a return. Ragnow, a three-time second-team All-Pro, announced back in June that he was stepping away from football to focus on his long-term health, saying he had “given everything” he had to the game.
When asked on 97.1 The Ticket if Ragnow might reconsider his decision given the team’s current situation, head coach Dan Campbell said—according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press—that “the ship has sailed” on a comeback.
The Lions’ line has been hit hard by injuries: rookie guard Christian Mahogany will be out for an extended stretch with a leg injury, while tackles Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell both went down during the Week 9 loss to the Vikings. With those setbacks, Detroit may explore external options for reinforcements before the trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon.
