Jahmyr Gibbs bursts through and carries the Lions to an OT victory over the Giants

Jahmyr Gibbs showcased his game-breaking speed and playmaking ability, powering the Detroit Lions to a thrilling overtime victory against the New York Giants. The running back totaled 219 rushing yards, including a decisive 69-yard touchdown in overtime that ended the contest immediately. While many of his teammates struggled to find rhythm, Gibbs consistently made explosive plays that kept Detroit in the game.

The Giants appeared in control for much of regulation, but a critical decision late in the fourth quarter swung momentum. With a narrow three-point lead, interim head coach Mike Kafka opted to attempt a fourth-and-goal conversion rather than kick a field goal. The Lions defense rose to the occasion, stopping the attempt and giving Detroit a chance to drive into position for Jake Bates’ 59-yard field goal to tie the game and send it into overtime.

In the extra period, the Giants won the coin toss but chose to kick. On the very first play, Gibbs took the handoff and sprinted untouched downfield for a 69-yard score, proving once again why he is one of the NFL’s most dangerous backs. Under the new overtime rules, the Giants still received a possession, but it ended in a fourth-down sack by Aidan Hutchinson, securing the Lions’ win.

Despite the loss, New York quarterback Jameis Winston produced a strong stat line, completing 18 of 36 passes for 366 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. He also caught a touchdown on a trick play. Wan’Dale Robinson stood out among the Giants’ receivers, hauling in nine passes for 156 yards and a score.

The victory improved Detroit’s record to 7-4, keeping them firmly in playoff contention, while the Giants fell to 2-10 as their struggles continued. Gibbs’ performance was the definitive factor in the game, proving he is capable of taking over a matchup and altering its outcome with a single electrifying run.
