Jahmyr Gibbs delivers game-winning long touchdown in overtime as Lions edge Giants 34–27.
Jahmyr Gibbs came up huge for the Detroit Lions, breaking free for a 69-yard touchdown on the very first snap of overtime, delivering a dramatic 34–27 victory over the New York Giants.
He piled up 264 yards from scrimmage, his personal best, and scored three times—twice on the ground and once through the air. During regulation, he had already gone 49 yards for a touchdown and caught a 3-yard scoring pass.
The winning drive came after Detroit kicker Jake Bates nailed a 59-yard field goal with just 28 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter—matching his career high—to send the game into overtime. Then, Lions quarterback Jared Goff handed the ball to Gibbs, whose superb speed and running lane sprung open thanks to a big block from his offensive line. Goff later said he raised his hands in celebration when Gibbs was about seven yards downfield.
This win was huge for Detroit (now 7–4), especially given their shaky position. Gibbs called it a “must-win” game.
On the Giants’ side, interim coach Mike Kafka made a bold call earlier: during a fourth-and-goal from the 6-yard line while leading by three, he opted to go for the touchdown instead of kicking a short field goal. That decision backfired when Jameis Winston’s pass to Theo Johnson fell incomplete, stopping their drive.
Winston, filling in again for injured rookie Jaxson Dart, put up solid numbers: 366 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and even caught a touchdown himself on a trick play. Wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson was a bright spot, hauling in nine catches for 156 yards and scoring once.
