The New England Patriots shuffled their running back group on Friday, adding a veteran while parting ways with a younger player.
New England brought in Craig Reynolds, who previously spent several seasons with the Detroit Lions, and placed him on the practice squad to start. To open a spot, the team released fellow running back Rushawn Baker.
Reynolds, 29, has carved out an unlikely NFL career. After starring at Division II Kutztown University, he entered the league as an undrafted free agent and still managed to appear in 60 games. His journey has included short stints with Washington and Jacksonville, followed by four seasons in Detroit from 2021 through 2025.
Before the Lions let him go earlier this year, Reynolds had suited up for seven games, contributing both on offense and special teams. Over his seven-year career, he has logged 154 carries for 658 yards and one score, along with 25 receptions for 258 yards. He’s also been a steady presence on coverage units, recording six special teams tackles this season alone.
The Patriots’ main running back group is finally healthy again, with TreVeyon Henderson, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Terrell Jennings available on the active roster. Reynolds will join D’Ernest Johnson as the practice-squad options at the position.
