Eagles, Bears Await Word on Possible Discipline After Jalen Hurts Hit
A recent hit on Jalen Hurts has put a Chicago Bears defender under league scrutiny and could lead to disciplinary action from the NFL.
Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles faced the Chicago Bears in a special Black Friday matchup, a game the Eagles hoped would help steady an offense that has struggled with inconsistency all season. Even with star players like Hurts, Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown, Philadelphia couldn’t find enough rhythm and ultimately fell to Chicago, 24–15, in Week 13.
Throughout the game, Hurts was under heavy pressure, but one third-quarter play stood out. Bears defensive tackle Gervon Dexter Sr. delivered a forceful hit that officials ruled went beyond legal contact on the quarterback. The play drew a roughing-the-passer flag, handing the Eagles 15 yards.
Philadelphia capitalized on the extended drive, ending it with Hurts connecting with A.J. Brown for a touchdown. While the play boosted the Eagles, it may have consequences for Dexter.
Roughing-the-passer penalties often trigger automatic reviews by the league’s gameday accountability team, and fines are common. For a first offense, the NFL typically issues a fine in the neighborhood of $17,000. If Dexter has had a previous violation, the amount could climb to roughly $23,186.
As the league reviews the incident, both teams are waiting to see whether additional punishment will follow.
