Matthew Stafford Responds After Kelly Posts Late-Night Family Moment Following Playoff Defeat

Matthew Stafford quickly shifted back into full-on dad mode after the Los Angeles Rams came up short in the NFC Championship.

Speaking on the January 26 episode of SiriusXM’s Let’s Go podcast, the 37-year-old quarterback reflected on an emotional moment with one of his daughters following the loss. Stafford shared that she was in tears, telling him how sorry she felt about the outcome. He reassured her by explaining that his life is filled with gratitude, reminding her that he’s been fortunate to play the game he loves for 17 seasons and to come home to four daughters and a supportive wife cheering him on.

Stafford returned home early Monday morning after the Rams fell 31–27 to the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs. Despite the late hour and the sting of defeat, his role as a father remained front and center.

Kelly Stafford later offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at that moment, posting two Nest camera clips on her Instagram Stories. The footage showed Matthew quietly checking on his daughters and tucking them into bed around 2:30 a.m. Kelly captioned the post by noting that even after a tough championship loss, he still made sure to kiss goodnight to Sawyer and Chandler, both 8, Hunter, 7, and Tyler, 5.

While missing out on a Super Bowl berth was painful, Stafford said his family helped him quickly regain perspective. He explained that football, while challenging, gives him valuable opportunities to teach his children about resilience and character. Rather than dwelling on what went wrong in the game, he tries to model courage—showing them how to step up, accept outcomes, and grow from the experience.

He added that the exchange with his daughter was especially meaningful, describing it as a moment he’ll always remember. Helping her move past her tears also served as a reminder to himself about the bigger picture beyond wins and losses.

Although the Rams’ season has ended, the Seahawks are now headed to Santa Clara, California, where they’ll face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60.

Stafford admitted he’ll be cheering for one Seahawk in particular—former Rams teammate Cooper Kupp. He shared that he sought Kupp out after the game to wish him well, saying he believes Kupp deserves another championship and expressed happiness for him and his family.

Kupp and his wife, Anna Marie, are parents to three sons who are often seen supporting their dad on game days.

In the end, Stafford believes the relationships formed through football are more meaningful than any trophy. He emphasized that the sport has given him lifelong friendships and connections, which he considers one of its greatest rewards.
