Lions Receive Good News Amid Raiders’ Maxx Crosby Trade Speculation

The Detroit Lions could be in line for a major defensive upgrade as Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby continues to be linked to trade speculation.

Crosby, one of the NFL’s elite edge rushers, has reportedly grown frustrated with the Raiders’ long-term direction and may be open to a move as the team heads into another rebuilding phase. According to recent reports, Detroit has emerged as a potential top destination if Crosby becomes available.

Maxx Crosby Reportedly Interested in Lions

Crosby’s dissatisfaction reportedly stems from the Raiders’ decision to place him on injured reserve for the final two games of the season, despite his belief that he was healthy enough to play. NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic suggested that while Crosby hasn’t formally demanded a trade, his intentions are becoming increasingly clear across the league.

“Maxx Crosby isn’t coming right out and saying it. But to coaches and general managers around the league, it’s pretty obvious,” Russini reported. “The Las Vegas Raiders’ star edge rusher would be highly interested in pursuing a change of scenery.”

Russini added that although Crosby remains under contract, league executives believe the Raiders could be willing to listen to offers if he truly wants out. However, the price tag would be significant — potentially comparable to a Micah Parsons-type trade package.

That scenario could benefit Detroit. Sports Illustrated’s Christian Booher reported that Crosby may already be eyeing the Lions as his preferred landing spot.

“According to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, if the Raiders decide to trade the 28-year-old, the Detroit Lions are Crosby’s clear first choice,” Booher wrote.

Trade Cost Could Be Massive

Any deal for Crosby would likely come at a steep price. Russini suggested Las Vegas could seek two first-round picks plus a player in return — similar to what Dallas would demand for Micah Parsons.

Despite the cost, the Lions could view Crosby as the missing piece alongside Aidan Hutchinson, giving Detroit one of the most dangerous pass-rushing duos in the NFL.

Patriots Could Also Enter the Mix

While Detroit appears well-positioned, competition may be fierce. Russini noted that Crosby has previously expressed admiration for New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, making the Patriots another potential contender.

“Crosby once told me he’d love to play for Mike Vrabel,” Russini wrote. “If Crosby does become available, the Patriots would be just one of many interested teams.”

Lions’ Super Bowl Window Adds Urgency

Detroit’s need for defensive firepower is clear. The Lions narrowly missed the playoffs in 2025 after winning the NFC North in back-to-back seasons, and the division continues to strengthen with both the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears improving.

With quarterback Jared Goff and the offense firmly in their championship window, Detroit could feel pressure to make a bold move. Pairing Hutchinson with Crosby would instantly transform the Lions’ pass rush and could push them back into serious Super Bowl contention.

For now, the rumors continue to swirl — but if Crosby becomes available, the Detroit Lions appear to be in prime position to strike.
