Detroit Radio Host Floats Wild Amon-Ra St. Brown Trade Idea — Fans Explode

Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown remains one of the most valuable players on the Detroit Lions roster after finishing among the NFL’s top five wide receivers in total receptions and receiving yards.

St. Brown is widely viewed as an “untouchable” player in Detroit. However, a prominent Detroit radio host believes there is one trade scenario that Lions general manager Brad Holmes should at least consider.

During a segment on 97.1 The Ticket’s popular “Valenti and Rico” show, host Rico Beard said he would be willing to trade St. Brown if it meant acquiring defensive tackle Chris Jones from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Beard argued that while trading St. Brown would be painful, Detroit has young talent at wide receiver and could replace production through other means.

“I’d do it, it would hurt, but you’ve got TeSlaa here, you’ve got Jamo (Jameson Williams), here, you could go and find a veteran wide receiver if you need them,” Beard said. “Yes, and you’re adding Chris Jones to go along with Aidan Hutchinson? I’d do that trade in a heartbeat.”

Lions Fans Strongly Reject Trade Idea

The proposal quickly drew backlash from Lions fans across social media, with many pointing to St. Brown’s leadership and importance to the offense.

One fan wrote, “Your tone setter on offense. Heart of your identity & rebuild. Top flight WR in a passing league. Jones is set to have the rapid decline in skill set. Heck no.”

Another added, “No. This is a bad idea. I like Chris Jones, but he’s also 10 years in the league.”

A third fan stated, “Amon-Ra is the heartbeat of the offense and is a guy you never get rid of. It’s not always about on-field production.”

Chris Jones’ Hall of Fame Resume

Jones has built an elite résumé during his career, earning seven Pro Bowl selections and six All-Pro honors. Many believe he is on a future Pro Football Hall of Fame path.

Even so, the idea of trading away St. Brown — the emotional leader of Detroit’s offense — remains difficult for most fans to accept, regardless of Jones’ accomplishments.

Verdict

While adding Chris Jones to a defensive front featuring Aidan Hutchinson would create a dominant pass rush, most believe the cost of losing Amon-Ra St. Brown would be too steep. St. Brown is not only a top-tier receiver but also a cultural cornerstone of Detroit’s rebuild.

For now, the idea remains hypothetical — but it highlights how valuable St. Brown has become and how unlikely it is that the Lions would ever truly consider moving him.
