Could the Cowboys Trade Trey Lance to the Dolphins for Tua’s Replacement?

In Miami, a potential crisis with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has sparked speculation in Dallas about a possible trade involving Trey Lance.

Tagovailoa, sidelined with yet another concussion, has led the Miami Dolphins to consider all options for their quarterback situation.

While Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is not suggesting that Tagovailoa might retire, he has acknowledged the team’s plan to add another quarterback to their roster.

This has prompted Dallas Cowboys fans and media to suggest that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones should trade Trey Lance to Miami. However, this idea might be overly optimistic.

Dallas traded a fourth-round pick for Lance a year ago, but he has not lived up to expectations and is now third on the depth chart behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush. If Dallas can recover any value from Lance, they will likely explore that option.

Miami, however, might not see Lance as a valuable addition. Currently, Skylar Thompson, who has shown promise in limited action, is expected to start while Tagovailoa is out.

The Dolphins also have veteran Tim Boyle on the practice squad, who, despite his poor record as a starter, is an option. Lance, who has not yet proven himself, may not be worth a fourth-round pick for Miami.

The Dolphins are likely evaluating various options and might find better fits than Lance, such as bringing back former Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill or signing someone like Mike White from the Bills’ practice squad. McDaniel, who was with the 49ers when Lance was drafted, might not be inclined to pursue a trade for him.

The speculation about Lance might be overstated, given that Miami is not desperate and has other viable alternatives.
