Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is pushing back against a narrative that suggests there may be friction within the organization’s leadership.
The speculation began after Mike Valenti made remarks on Detroit sports radio station 97.1 The Ticket. His comments quickly circulated among fans and sparked discussion about whether Campbell and Lions general manager Brad Holmes were no longer completely aligned.
Campbell recently addressed the chatter and made it clear he strongly disagrees with the suggestion.
While speaking at a luncheon hosted by Crain’s Detroit Business, Campbell shut down the report and emphasized the close working relationship he has with Holmes.
“We handle everything together,” Campbell explained, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “Regardless of what’s been said publicly, that’s just not accurate. We’re in a great place.”
His response served as a direct rebuttal to the claims circulating about a possible rift.
Strong Partnership Still in Place
Since Campbell and Holmes arrived in Detroit, they have widely been viewed as one of the most synchronized head coach–general manager partnerships in the National Football League. Campbell made it clear he believes that partnership remains unchanged.
He reinforced that point with another confident statement.
“We’re operating as well together as we ever have,” Campbell said. “Our goal is to win, and we’re going to make sure we get things right.”
The comment mirrors the message coming from within the organization: the leadership group remains unified and focused on bouncing back after a frustrating 2025 season.
Holmes has expressed similar sentiments, previously saying that he and Campbell are completely “in sync” when it comes to the direction of the team.
Debate Over the Original Report
Valenti’s comments attracted attention largely because of how direct they were. That specificity fueled conversation among fans and media alike.
However, both Campbell and Holmes have now publicly rejected the idea that there is any disagreement between them.
They have done so firmly and without hesitation.
Regardless of which version of events people believe, the Lions are clearly trying to send a message as they prepare for the 2026 season: the leadership at the top of the organization remains united.
During this stage of the offseason, speculation can easily gain momentum. But based on what the franchise’s top leaders are saying publicly, there is no indication that anything has changed internally.
Campbell and Holmes continue to operate as a united front.
And according to Campbell, their working relationship is as strong as it has ever been.
