Detroit Lions Host WR Scotty Miller Amid Potential Competition From Chicago Bears

The Detroit Lions are continuing to explore roster upgrades after the 2026 NFL Draft, and veteran wide receiver Scotty Miller is now on their radar. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Miller is scheduled to visit the Lions on Tuesday as the team evaluates additional depth at wide receiver.

However, Detroit may face competition for the veteran receiver. Schefter also reported that Miller is expected to work out for the Chicago Bears next week, meaning the Lions could be competing with their NFC North rival for his services.

Lions Evaluating Scotty Miller as Depth Option at Wide Receiver

Heading into the 2026 season, Detroit already has a strong top trio at the position with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and rookie Isaac TeSlaa expected to lead the receiving corps.

Behind them, however, the competition for roster spots remains wide open. Players such as Greg Dortch, Jackson Meeks, Dominic Lovett, Malik Cunningham, Kendrick Law, and Tom Kennedy are all battling for roles in Detroit’s receiver room.

Detroit also lost veteran wideout Kalif Raymond earlier this offseason when he joined the Chicago Bears. Miller offers a similar skill set, primarily operating as a quick and shifty slot receiver who can stretch the field and create separation.

Scotty Miller Brings Veteran Experience to the Lions’ Radar

Miller, who played collegiately at Bowling Green Falcons football, has spent seven seasons in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and Pittsburgh Steelers. During his career, he has recorded 99 receptions for 1,216 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

His last two seasons in Pittsburgh were quiet statistically, finishing with just 70 receiving yards in each season. Still, Miller’s experience, route-running ability, and professionalism could make him a valuable depth option for Detroit.

Lions Could Move Quickly to Prevent Bears From Signing Miller

The potential rivalry element adds intrigue to Miller’s free agency. The Chicago Bears are led by head coach Ben Johnson, the former Lions offensive coordinator who helped guide Chicago to a division title in 2025.

While Miller would not dramatically change Detroit’s offensive outlook, he could provide reliable depth and veteran leadership at a low cost. According to Spotrac, Miller’s projected market value is around $1.6 million on a one-year contract.

At this stage of the offseason, quality free-agent options are limited. If the Lions believe Miller can contribute, they may need to act quickly before the Bears make their move.

Detroit will likely learn more following Miller’s visit, which could determine whether the veteran receiver remains in the Motor City or ends up joining a division rival.
