Cowboys Lose Jordan Phillips to IR, Sign Carlos Watkins as Replacement

The Dallas Cowboys lost a defensive lineman to injured reserve and responded by signing a player from the Washington Commanders’ practice squad to their 53-man roster. Jordan Phillips was placed on IR by the Cowboys

According to a Cowboys statement, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips was placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury.

Phillips, who was traded from the Giants in August, recorded one tackle in the Cowboys’ Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns. He will be eligible to return for the Cowboys on Oct. 27 when they face the San Francisco 49ers.

Carlos Watkins signed from the Commanders

In the same statement, the Cowboys announced they signed Carlos Watkins from the Commanders’ practice squad.

Watkins, familiar to Cowboys fans, played for Dallas in 2021 and 2022. He had a strong 2021 season, posting 32 tackles and a pick-6. It’s understandable why Dan Quinn would bring him back.

At 30, Watkins has played eight seasons in the NFL, starting in 37 games and appearing in 72. His career stats include six sacks, 139 tackles, and one forced fumble.

Watkins was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
