Dallas cowboys

Before overpowering the Cowboys, Derrick Henry disclosed the message he delivered to his Ravens teammates.

The Baltimore Ravens jumped out to a 28-6 lead over the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, ultimately holding off a fierce comeback to claim their first win of the 2024 season and end a two-game skid. Meanwhile, Dallas fell to 1-2.

Running back Derrick Henry, who had been linked to the Cowboys during the offseason, played a key role in Baltimore’s win. In his postgame press conference, Henry deflected attention from himself by praising his offensive line and naming each of them, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.

“The offensive line made that possible,” Henry said about the victory. “We came in with the mindset to move guys off the line, play physically, and execute Ravens-style football. They did a fantastic job today. For me to succeed, I told them, ‘When y’all go, we’re all connected.’ Hats off to the O-line.”

Henry, who rushed for 151 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns, continued praising the offensive line during his postgame interview with Hall of Fame quarterback-turned-broadcaster Tom Brady on Fox Sports NFL.

“They did an amazing job. I’d been pushing them all week,” Henry told Brady. “I was like, ‘Just fire off the ball, and let’s get going early.’ They took it seriously and played their butts off. I’m really proud of them.”

“We wanted to establish momentum on our side and keep it there,” he added. “We got it early, but as the game progressed, we started to slip a bit, so we had to fix that. But I think the key was focusing on finishing… just happy to get the win in this environment and in such a great game.”

Henry’s standout performance underscored the Cowboys’ 2024 issues with stopping the run, as they’ve allowed an average of 185.7 rushing yards per game through three weeks.

Derrick Henry was linked to the Cowboys before signing with Baltimore

After the game, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was asked why Dallas didn’t sign Henry despite rumors of interest. Jones replied that they couldn’t afford him, sparking a mixed reaction from fans on social media.

Last week, Henry suggested he would have considered playing for Dallas since he resides there but expressed satisfaction with how things turned out, according to USA Today.

“If Baltimore wasn’t interested, I was thinking maybe Dallas since I live there,” Henry said last week. “It would have been convenient. But Baltimore showed interest, and I’m grateful.”

Henry and the Ravens will be back home to face the Buffalo Bills next week at M&T Bank Stadium.
