Michael Irvin Suggests Cowboys Must Act to Acquire Davante Adams.

Star wide receiver Davante Adams has requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, leading to various trade proposals for the six-time Pro Bowler.

Given that Adams is 31 and will turn 32 on Christmas Eve, a move to a Super Bowl-contending team would be beneficial for him.

Michael Irvin, the legendary former Cowboys wide receiver, expressed on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that the Cowboys should aggressively pursue Adams.

Although Adams’ performance has declined slightly this season, it’s likely impacted by the Raiders’ struggles at the quarterback position.

In 2022, Adams had an impressive season with 1,516 receiving yards and an NFL-high 14 touchdown receptions, earning him his most recent Pro Bowl selection while with the Green Bay Packers.

Currently, the Cowboys sit at 2-2 and are facing multiple issues, including the lack of a solid No. 2 wide receiver alongside CeeDee Lamb.

Dallas hoped Brandin Cooks, whom they traded for last offseason, would fill that role.

However, his performance has been disappointing, as he has only recorded nine catches for 91 yards this year.

A significant consideration for the Cowboys is that Adams is on a different timeline compared to their other key players.

Lamb, pass rusher Micah Parsons, and cornerbacks Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland are all in their mid-20s.

Although quarterback Dak Prescott is also 31, he likely has several productive years ahead.

Wide receivers typically have shorter careers than quarterbacks, raising concerns about whether the Cowboys should pay a high price for Adams, given the limited number of good years he may have left.

This factor complicates the decision to trade for a player of his caliber.

Ultimately, while the idea of acquiring Adams is appealing, the Cowboys must weigh the risks and potential costs involved.
