Say hello to the Lions fan who intercepted the football that Jared Goff threw in his touchdown celebration.
Everyone is buzzing about the Lions’ Monday Night Football victory over the Seahawks, especially Jared Goff‘s touchdown pass that he caught and ran into the end zone.
Goff celebrated the trick play by tossing the football into the stands, landing it right in the hands of a Detroit firefighter.
“It came right to me, and I just jumped up and caught it,” said Alex Vadasy.
Vadasy has been a firefighter in Detroit for a decade and is a season ticket holder who happened to be in the perfect seat.
“Suddenly, I saw Amon-Ra St. Brown stop and turn around, and I thought they wouldn’t throw it, but they did,” Vadasy recalled.
Then Goff threw the ball into the crowd, and the stadium erupted.
“No one else around me saw it, and I caught it,” Alex said. “I turned to my two buddies from the station and said, ‘I got it.’ They replied, ‘Got what?'”
NFL rules stipulate that players who throw the ball into the stands face a fine of around $7,000.
Shortly after, Alex learned that the Lions wanted the football back.
“About ten minutes after the excitement, a team representative came and asked for the ball back, offering an exchange,” Vadasy explained. “I thought, ‘Maybe I’ll get something cool.'”
FOX 2: “So, Alex, did you give the ball back?”
“I’d want my first NFL touchdown ball back too, so we decided to do it,” he said.
Alex mentioned the Lions will provide him with a replacement ball.
