Detroit Lions’ Jameson Williams penalized for touchdown celebration dunk.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams faced a fine for his touchdown celebration after catching a 70-yard pass on Monday night.

He dunked the football over the crossbar to pay tribute to Pro Football Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson, who was honored during halftime of Detroit’s 42-29 win against the Seattle Seahawks by being inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor.

Williams mimicked Johnson’s iconic celebration known as Megatron following his score against Seattle.

Unlike Johnson’s time in the league, when his dunk did not incur a penalty, Williams received a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during the game.

Subsequently, the NFL announced he would be fined $14,069 for the celebration.

Additionally, two other players with ties to Alabama football were included in the list of 23 players fined by the NFL for infractions during Week 4.

Cleveland Browns defensive end Alex Wright, from Elba and UAB, had a rough week, receiving a $7,743 fine for a roughing-the-passer penalty in a 20-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Compounding his situation, Wright underwent surgery for a triceps injury on Thursday, which will keep him out for the rest of his third NFL season.

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins, from Clay-Chalkville, also faced fines, totaling $22,511 for unnecessary roughness involving helmet use during a 24-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Notably, Collins, who leads the NFL in receiving yards for 2024, was not penalized in-game for the incident that resulted in his fine.

The NFL employs a collectively bargained fine schedule that outlines monetary penalties and includes various factors that can influence the amount

imposed.
