Lions head coach Dan Campbell provides an update on Branch, Ragnow, and Barnes’ injuries.

As the team gets back together and starts getting ready for Dallas this week, head coach Dan Campbell shared some encouraging updates on the injury front.

When asked about safety Brian Branch and center Frank Ragnow, Campbell said both practiced Monday and, “as of right now, they look good.”

That’s obviously huge for the Lions. The Detroit Lions have been hit hard by the injury bug this season, so the bye week may have come at a good time last week.

Despite having a concussion, Branch looked ready to play against Seattle in Week 4, but a late-week illness kept him out of the game. Ragnow, who reportedly suffered a partly torn pectoral muscle versus Arizona, had a more uncertain timeline.

Though he was not allowed to play in the Seattle game, Campbell had previously stated that the All-Pro “always wants to go” and was determined to give it a shot. Sadly, not all of the injury news was good.

Campbell expressed pessimism on linebacker Derrick Barnes, who is currently on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury versus Arizona. “It’s tough to say right now,” Campbell added. “I believe it will be a blessing if we can acquire him at any time this year.

Although I won’t say it won’t happen, I believe we would be extremely lucky if it did. That’s unfortunate not only because of his diminished influence but also because Barnes’ contract is about to expire and he was playing so brilliantly. If everything goes according to plan, he should be able to make a comeback in time for the postseason.
