Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott used two impactful words to describe the team after their Week 5 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Sunday, October 6, the Cowboys exited Acrisure Stadium with a thrilling 20-17 win against the Steelers. The game ended dramatically, as Prescott connected with wide receiver Jalen Tolbert for a touchdown with just 20 seconds remaining, completing a 70-yard drive that secured the victory.
In his post-game comments, Prescott highlighted the team’s determination, using “persistence” and “resilience” to encapsulate their effort.
“The team really demonstrated that on that drive,” he remarked in a press conference right after the game.
Commenting on the crucial Tolbert touchdown, Prescott noted, “Fortunately, we faced a fourth down, and it was special to find Tolbert. He did an excellent job getting open across the field, and the offensive line allowed me to remain in the pocket.”
Prescott also addressed some of the team’s flaws during the game, particularly an interception he threw just before halftime.
“Yeah, we just wanted a chance,” he explained. “We wanted that opportunity on the two-minute drive. I was frustrated about the earlier drive, obviously, throwing an interception when we could have scored easily, whether three points or a touchdown. Two-minute situations are something I thrive in, so getting back in the game down four and knowing we needed a touchdown was crucial.”
He praised the Cowboys for practicing under high-pressure scenarios, like the last-minute touchdown, and being prepared for critical moments.
“We train for that often,” he stated. “I’d say we probably practice it more than any team in the league, so we’re all comfortable when those plays are called. We executed quickly and had chances to score in the end zone.
Whether it was my run getting to the half-yard line or Rico (Dowdle, running back) trying to leap over, we always emphasize following the ball, and that’s why it’s essential. These situations come up repeatedly in practice.”
Looking Ahead to the Detroit Lions
Next, the Cowboys will face the Detroit Lions, who are 3-1, on Sunday, October 13, at home. Following the win over the Steelers, head coach Mike McCarthy indicated that the team is already focused on Detroit.
“We’re concentrating on the Lions now; that chapter has closed,” he said in an October 7 press conference. “This is what Monday is for. We have a significant challenge ahead. We need to win a home game. Historically, we’ve performed well at home, so it’s crucial to secure that first victory here.”
