Chris Christie Critiques Dan Campbell

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is known for his strong opinions, and recently, he directed his frustration at Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell. During a radio interview on “Mad Dog Unleashed” with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, Christie expressed his displeasure over the Lions’ overwhelming victory against his beloved Dallas Cowboys, where the Lions won 47-9. Christie felt the trick plays and antics late in the game went too far.

“That’s Dan Campbell. He’s got no class. Never has,” Christie stated, as reported by the Detroit News. “It’s fine. Look, Dan Campbell, that’s just who he is, and what goes around comes around.”

Russo pressed Christie for further clarification, and the former governor did not hold back. “So because of that, you want to take your anger out while you’re beating these guys and rub it in? I don’t think that’s how pros behave. But it’s his choice; it’s the reputation he’ll carry.”

Christie appeared to be referring to the various trick plays the Lions executed in the second half of their commanding win. Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, known for keeping defenses off-balance, utilized creative strategies, including a double reverse flea flicker that led to a long touchdown for tight end Sam LaPorta.

Christie also criticized Campbell’s motivation for the playcalling, recalling a controversial decision from the 2023 season when the Lions lost narrowly to the Cowboys. “Dan Campbell’s upset because the refs made a bad call last year,” Christie said. “Well, then, take that up with Roger Goodell. The Cowboys weren’t involved in that call; it was a refereeing error that the Lions faced, and the Cowboys benefited.”

Campbell, recognized for his fiery personality and aggressive tactics, likely won’t let comments like these affect him. However, as Christie notes, the Lions’ antics will definitely keep the rivalry with the Cowboys lively for years to come.
