In a series of Minnesota Vikings roster adjustments, both Hockenson and Risner experience the same result.

The Minnesota Vikings are less than 24 hours away from their matchup with the Detroit Lions. As the weekend approached, several questions surrounded the 53-man roster for game day.

Aaron Jones, TJ Hockenson, and Dalton Risner were all questionable leading up to the weekend. While Hockenson and Risner weren’t required to come off the PUP list, both hinted earlier in the week that it was possible.

Vikings rule TJ Hockenson, Dalton Risner OUT However, it didn’t happen. On Saturday, Risner and Hockenson were ruled OUT for Sunday’s game against the Lions. Robert Tonyan was signed to provide depth at tight end against TJ’s former team.

Meanwhile, Jones went from “how long will he be out” to being ready to start tomorrow. Coming off a bye week, the Vikings also waived wide receiver Trishton Jackson and promoted two practice squad players.

Jalen Redmond, Bo Richter elevated from practice squad vs Lions Defensive lineman Jalen Redmond, waived and re-signed to the practice squad this week, will be active. EDGE Bo Richter, a regular practice squad elevation, will also play.

Hockenson’s absence isn’t shocking, as insiders suggested he wouldn’t play this week. This points to injury report manipulation, something the NFL aims to address.

Key points to watch after roster moves The Vikings likely knew Hockenson wouldn’t play. Yet, he was listed as “limited” all week before being marked “questionable” on Friday’s injury report.

The situation with Risner also raises questions. Earlier this week, the former Bronco said he was 100% healthy and ready to play. He reiterated his readiness to fill any role the team needed.

His comments almost sounded like a subtle plea. Yet, when the status report came out, Risner was listed as OUT. Why? If he’s no longer injured, it’s unclear why he hasn’t been activated. He likely isn’t happy, and with the trade deadline approaching, this could become more significant.
