According to Eric Woodyard from ESPN, Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is facing a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances (PES) policy.
Under this policy, players can be suspended for two games if they test positive for stimulants, diuretics, or masking agents.
This marks the second suspension for Williams in two seasons.
In April 2023, he was initially suspended for six games due to violating the NFL’s gambling policy by placing mobile bets on non-NFL games from a team facility.
However, that suspension was later reduced to four games when the rules were updated.
Additionally, Williams missed a significant part of his rookie season in 2022 as he recovered from a torn ACL suffered during the National Championship Game in January.
This season, Williams has shown impressive performance with 17 receptions for 361 yards and three touchdowns, boasting an average of 21.2 yards per catch, which ranks second in the league.
His impact on the Lions’ offense has been notable, with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson referring to it as the “Jameson effect,” highlighting how his presence affects defensive strategies.
Williams expressed disappointment about the suspension but stated he has “no choice but to take it on the chin.”
He remains optimistic, saying he is eager to rejoin his teammates as soon as possible.
It appears that Williams will not appeal the suspension.
If the suspension is upheld, he will miss Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans and Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers.
He is expected to return in Week 10 for a Sunday Night Football game against the Houston Texans.
As of now, the league has not officially announced Williams’ suspension or the specifics of his violation, likely due to the report coming out after 10:30 p.m. ET on Monday night.
The Lions have not released a statement regarding the situation.
