Detroit Lions fans are vocally criticizing Jameson Williams after his remarks following his two-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs.
The Detroit Lions are currently tied for first in the NFC North with a 5-1 record after a thrilling 31-29 victory against the Minnesota Vikings. They aim to maintain their strong start as they prepare to face the Tennessee Titans in Week Eight and the Green Bay Packers, who are just half a game behind at 5-2, in Week Nine.
Unfortunately for Detroit, wide receiver Jameson Williams will miss the next two games due to a suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy. He recorded one catch for -4 yards in the win over Minnesota.
Williams has stated he’ll “take it on the chin” following his two-game suspension. Drafted 12th overall by the Lions in 2022, Williams missed the first 11 games of his rookie season due to an ACL injury from college. In the six games he played that season, he caught one pass for 41 yards, which was a touchdown.
Last year, Williams served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s gambling policy and played 12 games, totaling 24 catches for 354 yards and two touchdowns. This season, he is second on the team with 361 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
ESPN’s Eric Woodyard reported that Williams is upset about the suspension but feels he has “no choice but to take it on the chin.” He expressed that he is “in good spirits” and eager to return to his teammates as soon as possible.
Lions fans have voiced their frustrations on social media regarding Williams. While his lengthy recovery from ACL surgery during his rookie year was understandable, the recent gambling and performance-enhancing substance suspensions are viewed as inexcusable. Although the specific substances that led to his suspension haven’t been disclosed, his decision not to appeal suggests he acknowledges his mistake.
