Detroit Coach Responds to Chris Christie, Labels Him Classless for High Score Against Cowboys
Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell found it amusing that former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie labeled him classless following the Lions’ dominant victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
Last week, the Lions crushed the Cowboys 47-9, marking the worst loss for Dallas since Jerry Jones became owner in 1989. The outcome was clear well before the game ended, with the Lions steadily increasing their lead.
At one point, they attempted a trick play featuring offensive tackle Penei Sewell in a “hook and ladder” setup, but it was nullified due to an offensive penalty.
As a Cowboys fan and close friend of Jerry Jones, Christie did not appreciate the Lions’ approach.
On Chris “Mad Dog” Russo’s show, Mad Dog Unleashed, Christie criticized Campbell, stating he had “no class.”
“That’s Dan Campbell,” Christie remarked. “He’s never had any class, so it’s fine. That’s just how he is; what goes around, comes around.”
During a press conference on Monday, Campbell was asked about Christie’s remarks. He burst into laughter upon hearing the former governor’s name.
“The last time somebody called me class, I was drinking wine out of a bottle,” Campbell joked.
“But no, it’s all good. I’m not worried about it.”
Campbell’s lighthearted response indicates he isn’t taking the criticism to heart, reflecting a laid-back attitude amid the ongoing discussions about sportsmanship in the wake of a lopsided game.
The incident highlights the tension that can arise in sports when one team decisively outperforms another, prompting commentary from fans and public figures alike.
