A trade proposal has surfaced that would bring a $125 million elite edge rusher to the Detroit Lions.
The Detroit Lions are actively seeking an edge rusher ahead of the Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline, following season-ending injuries to Marcus Davenport and Aidan Hutchinson, which have left their pass rush depleted.
Recently, head coach Dan Campbell expressed confidence that the team would acquire someone to fill this need, but finding a replacement for Hutchinson’s elite production will be challenging.
NFL analyst Alex Kay from Bleacher Report proposed a bold trade idea: the Lions could trade for Cleveland Browns superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett. The Lions would send a 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 first-round pick, and a conditional 2026 third-round pick, which would become a second-rounder if Detroit makes the Super Bowl, in exchange for Garrett.
While the Lions would be sacrificing their future by giving up multiple high draft picks, acquiring the Cleveland star could almost ensure that Detroit’s defense ranks among the best in the NFL in 2024. This risk might be worthwhile with a Super Bowl title in sight, and they could link a conditional Day 2 pick to their playoff success with Garrett in the lineup.
The proposed trade package for Garrett is substantial and might not even be enough for the Browns to let him go. However, the Lions would likely embrace Kay’s idea, as their Super Bowl window is wide open, and they should explore every option to enhance their chances.
Bringing Garrett on board would be a major boost, as he is currently the top pass-rusher in the league. With two years remaining on his contract after 2024, the Lions could pair him with Hutchinson for several seasons, creating a formidable duo that would be tough for opponents to handle.
However, whether the Browns will actually consider trading their star player remains uncertain, especially given their disastrous 1-6 record, making anything possible if the offer is enticing enough.
